The footage, which depicted Engonga engaging in intimate encounters with several high-profile women, quickly gained widespread attention, sparking public outrage.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has now ordered Engonga’s removal from office.

The scandal has drawn criticism from all over Africa.

A decree, No. 118/2024, dated November, formally announced Engonga’s dismissal. The decree cited his misconduct and personal behavior, which were deemed inconsistent with his public office and responsibilities. The leaked content, which reportedly included around 400 tapes, became a major topic of debate within the country.

First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang expressed her shock and disapproval of the scandal during a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue. She called for swift government action to uphold the dignity of Equatoguinean women and to ensure their privacy is protected in the digital age.

In a statement on social media, the First Lady’s office underscored the government’s commitment to gender equality. It highlighted that while progress has been made, stronger proactive measures are needed to prevent such incidents and create a safer environment for women across the country.
