Speed Darlington has sued the IGP over his alleged unlawful detention
The rapper has filed a N300m fundamental rights enforcement lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The lawsuit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1832/2024, lists the IGP as the sole respondent.
Darlington, 39, was allegedly detained following allegations of defamation and cyberstalking related to Burna Boy.
In the suit, one of Darlington’s lawyers, Deji Adeyanju, requested the court to declare his arrest and detention a violation of his fundamental rights as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution. The rapper also seeks compensation for unlawful detention and demands his immediate release or a court appearance.
Mr. Adeyanju further sought an order directing the IGP to immediately and unconditionally release Darlington or produce him in court for an inquiry into the circumstances of his detention and possible bail.
Additionally, the suit demands N300 million in damages for alleged unlawful detention and mistreatment.
Darlington’s legal team claims he has been subjected to torture and mistreatment during his time in custody.
