Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will end the state of emergency in Rivers State once stability is restored

In an interview with The Nation, Idris emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to reinstating democratic governance in the oil-rich state.
“As soon as he assesses that sanity has returned to Rivers State, he will ensure the restoration of all democratic structures,” he said, adding that Tinubu “will not wait a minute longer than necessary.”
Addressing speculation about ulterior motives behind the emergency rule, Idris clarified that the decision was solely to restore order.
“The president has no intention whatsoever to take over the governance of Rivers State. He has no intention to be or to appoint a governor for Rivers State,” he stated.
He explained that the breakdown of governance in the state made intervention necessary, describing the move as “a very responsible but very painful” decision aligned with constitutional provisions.
“The three arms of government must work together for a functional democracy. We didn’t have that in Rivers State, so the president had to act,” Idris said.
The emergency rule, declared last week, led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all state assembly members, with retired naval chief Ibok-Ete Ibas appointed as sole administrator.
