Man who lost pregnant Wife replies Reuben Abati for criticizing his lack of savings

The journalist, Abati, had sharply criticized the man for what he viewed as an act of irresponsibility.

In response, the grieving husband explained that while he had saved money for the delivery, he did not have the full N500K that the hospital requested.

He said:

“Sir, with due respect, this is not my first child. When my wife got pregnant, we did our best to take care of her. I never went public or asked you, sir, to lend me money or help me feed my children. I saved money, but I didn’t save N500K. I saved for that day, but they asked me for a N500K deposit, not the full payment. All the money I could gather that day didn’t exceed 100K. I don’t know if it’s an offense not to have N500K when your wife is about to give birth. Is it a crime to live below N500K? Because you’re saying it’s the highest irresponsibility that I didn’t have N500K. So, is it a crime to be poor in Nigeria?”
