The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that VeryDarkMan (VDM), will be released once he fulfills his bail conditions

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale made the statement on Monday in an interview with BBC News Pidgin. “We will release him if he meets his bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible,” he said.
Oyewale explained that VDM was arrested in response to multiple petitions filed by various individuals alleging misconduct. “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” he noted.
When asked whether Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) was among the petitioners, Oyewale declined to disclose any names, citing the commission’s duty to protect the identities of those who file complaints.
VDM was arrested in Abuja by EFCC operatives, sparking outrage on social media. Critics accused the commission of targeting voices of dissent.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, claimed VDM was ambushed and arrested inside a GTBank branch, fueling speculation about the bank’s involvement.
However, GTBank has denied any role in the arrest, releasing CCTV footage and stating that the incident did not occur on its premises. The bank called for a full and transparent investigation to clear the air.
In response to the arrest, protesters gathered at GTBank’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, holding placards and demanding VDM’s unconditional release.
