Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has submitted a formal petition to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of spearheading a coordinated defamation effort against her

In the letter dated May 15 and titled “Petition Against Coordinated Defamation and Cyberbullying by Sponsored Syndicate at the Behest of the President of the Senate – Godswill Akpabio,” Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio has been using media allies to circulate damaging and false claims about her.
The senator pointed to a series of identical reports published on multiple online platforms on May 10, which accused her of terrorism sponsorship, involvement in political killings in Kogi Central, and illegal arms dealings. Her legal counsel, Ehiogie West-Idahosa, argued that the simultaneous release of the stories across various outlets suggests a well-planned and centrally directed campaign.
“These claims are not just false and malicious—they endanger my safety and aim to destroy my political credibility,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.
She described the publications as a form of cyberbullying and an attempt at character assassination, accusing those behind them of trying to undermine her status as a federal legislator and set the stage for politically motivated investigations or prosecution.
Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that this was not the first time she had been targeted. She recalled facing similar attacks during her 2023 governorship bid in Kogi State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which she says were designed to damage her public image.
In her petition, she called on the police to thoroughly investigate the individuals and media outlets involved and to specifically probe Akpabio’s alleged involvement.
“I respectfully request that your esteemed office investigate this matter thoroughly and bring to justice all individuals and organizations involved in this coordinated defamation campaign,” the petition stated.
She also urged the police to provide her with security, citing growing concerns for her personal safety following the publication of the terrorism allegations.
“This pattern of cyberbullying and political blackmail must not be allowed to continue unchecked,” she warned. “It poses a grave threat to democracy, free speech, and the integrity of our institutions.”
