Eno, who declared that he had consulted widely and believed it was time to “move” to the ruling party at the federal level, was interrupted by a loud and unified “No!” from the crowd. His appeal for support to “connect to the center” and align Akwa Ibom with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio drew mostly rejection, with only a few voices echoing a reluctant “yes.”

Undeterred by the pushback, the governor continued to argue for the switch, stressing the political disadvantage Akwa Ibom faces by remaining in opposition. “We are already a minority state in Nigeria,” he said. “If we come again and start breaking ourselves into pieces, we become a minority of the minorities and cannot get anything.”

He urged constituents not to fear the change, assuring them that the move was divinely inspired and strategically necessary ahead of the 2027 general elections. Eno also called for support in securing a second term for himself, President Tinubu, and Akpabio.
