Again, Obi proves he was never politically linked to late Abacha

Peter Obi has again proved he was never politically linked to late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, stating that their brief interaction was purely born out of civic responsibility

In a post shared Wednesday on his official X handle, Obi explained that he was co-opted into a task force on port decongestion during Abacha’s regime and had never met the general until that specific engagement.

“Our meeting with him was borne out of collective concern as traders and importers over the prolonged delays in clearing goods at the ports,” Obi wrote. “We approached him not as political actors, but as concerned citizens seeking pragmatic solutions.”

He continued:

“I had never met General Sani Abacha before that encounter. Our intention was clear: to advocate for efficiency and to propose practical steps towards restoring normalcy in port operations.”

To back his claims, Obi attached a copy of the letter documenting his inclusion in the port decongestion task force.

“I hereby attach the letter which documents my co-opting, along with others, into the Taskforce on the decongestion of the Ports.”

He stressed that his involvement had nothing to do with political ambition but was motivated solely by the desire to contribute to national development.

“This clarification is offered in the interest of truth, to reaffirm that our actions were driven solely by a sense of civic duty.”

Concluding, Obi addressed those he called mischief makers behind the allegations:

“I don’t expect this copious evidence to bury this Abacha case because the mischief makers have ulterior motives, but it’s being placed in the public space for posterity and in line with my transparency pledge.”
