Atiku issued the statement on Tuesday via his verified X account, in response to the governor’s declaration that Obi must obtain security clearance before entering Edo State.

The governor made the controversial statement during the defection ceremony of federal lawmaker Marcus Onobun to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused Obi of contributing to unrest in the state, citing a spike in violence after the former Anambra governor visited.

“That man who claims he has no ‘shishi’ came and dropped ₦15 million. Where did he get it from? After he left, three people were killed,” Okpebholo said, referring to Obi’s recent donation to St. Philomena Hospital School of Nursing Sciences in Benin City.

He insisted that going forward, Obi would require clearance to visit the state.

Reacting, Atiku tweeted: “Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us.”
