Nigeria will face hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 WAFCON on Saturday, July 26, following their victories in the semi-finals on Tuesday
The Super Falcons moved one step closer to winning a record-extending 10th WAFCON title with a nervy 2-1 victory over South Africa at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, while the hosts edged Ghana 4-2 on penalties after regular time ended 1-1.
A first half penalty from captain Rasheedat Ajibade and a stoppage-time effort from Michelle Alozie earned the victory for Nigeria after they were put to a tough test by the defending champions.
The Justine Madugu-led side dominated the opening exchanges in the early minutes, but their first real opportunity arrived in the 11th minute, after defender Ashleigh Plumptre teed up Chinwendu Ihezuo, but South Africa goalkeeper Andile Dlamini produced a fine save to deny the striker.
Nigeria are yet to lose a final since the inception of the WAFCON tournament in 1998, and will be looking to finish off their mission of ruling the continent for the 10th time.
