Jazz legend, Chuck Mangione has d!ed at the age of 84. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Rochester, New York, on July 22, 2025

Mangione rose to international fame in the late 1970s with his smooth jazz hit “Feels So Good,” which became an enduring classic and helped bring jazz to a broader audience. Over a career that spanned more than six decades, he released over 30 albums and earned 14 Grammy nominations, winning two—Bellavia in 1977 and Children of Sanchez in 1979.
Born on November 29, 1940, in Rochester, Mangione studied and later taught at the Eastman School of Music. Early in his career, he played alongside jazz greats like Art Blakey and Dizzy Gillespie, shaping a distinctive sound that blended jazz, pop, and classical elements.
Mangione’s music became a fixture at major events, including the 1976 Montreal Olympics (“Chase the Clouds Away”) and the 1980 Winter Olympics, where he performed “Give It All You Got.”
Beyond music, he became a pop culture icon through recurring appearances as himself on the animated sitcom King of the Hill, where his ever-present flugelhorn and cheerful persona earned him a new generation of fans.
Though he officially retired from performing in 2015, Mangione remained active in the Rochester music community, mentoring young musicians and supporting local arts initiatives.
He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, and his brother, Gap Mangione. In a family statement, they said, “Chuck’s love affair with music was defined by boundless joy, energy, and a deep desire to connect with people through every note he played.”
Mangione leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the most influential figures in smooth jazz—a musician whose melodies, warmth, and passion for his craft touched millions around the world.
