A jailbreak has occurred at the Keffi Correctional Centre in Nasarawa State, with 14 inmates reported to have escaped

Sources within the facility confirmed the development to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, though details remain unclear. “There has been a jailbreak in Keffi Prison and 14 prisoners escaped,” one source said.
This incident comes nearly six years after a similar disturbance at the same facility. On August 15, 2019, at least 50 inmates reportedly attempted a mass escape, allegedly due to poor feeding and lack of medical care. That situation was eventually contained by police officers, the IGP Special Technical Squad, and other security operatives.
At the time, prison authorities denied any jailbreak attempt, with then-Nasarawa State Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Emmanuel Okoro, describing the unrest as a protest by inmates who were barred from smoking cigarettes inside the yard — a rule in line with the Service’s regulations.
Efforts to reach the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, for comments on the latest incident were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
