The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has lifted the lifetime ban imposed on Ms. Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger previously sanctioned for unruly conduct
AON spokesperson, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, said the decision followed an appeal by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

He explained that the operators considered several factors, including Emmanson’s show of remorse, the withdrawal of complaints against her, the striking out of charges, and her recent release from custody.
Okonkwo praised the Federal Government’s plan to organise a retreat for retraining Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and airline crew on managing disruptive passengers. He also urged aviation agencies to intensify public education on the dangers and legal consequences of unruly behaviour, as outlined in Section 85 of the Civil Aviation Act 2022 and Part 17 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023.
He listed examples of prohibited conduct, including assault or threats against crew members, refusal to obey safety instructions, smoking in restricted areas, fighting, disorderly behaviour, or tampering with aircraft equipment.
The AON reaffirmed that pilots-in-command and AVSEC officers are authorised to restrain or de-board disruptive passengers and hand them over to law enforcement to ensure safety and order.
“We confirm that members shall cooperate fully with relevant aviation agencies and participate in the retraining retreats on how to handle cases of unruly and disruptive passengers as proposed by the Minister,” Okonkwo stated.
