President Bola Tinubu has approved the start of the process to appoint five new permanent secretaries, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) announced
Head of Service Didi Walson-Jack said the openings include two slots created by the retirement of permanent secretaries from Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory, and three additional slots for the North-Central, North-East, and South-East zones following the creation of new ministries.

In a statement issued by OHCSF’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, the selection process was described as one designed to uphold transparency, credibility, and merit, in line with the government’s commitment to good governance.
Walson-Jack noted that the exercise is open only to directors on Grade Level 17 who have spent at least two years on the grade and have been cleared of any disciplinary cases.
She explained that the process began with the compilation and screening of eligible candidates by a Committee of Permanent Secretaries, with oversight from the ICPC and DSS.
“Candidates also completed asset declaration forms with the Code of Conduct Bureau, while clearances from the EFCC, ICPC, and DSS are ongoing,” she stated.
A written examination for shortlisted candidates will take place on September 15, followed by an ICT proficiency test on September 17.
The process will conclude with an oral interview on September 19, to be conducted by a panel that includes serving and retired permanent secretaries, former heads of service, the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, and private sector representatives.
“Anti-corruption agencies will also observe the process. The final recommendations will be submitted to the President for approval,” Walson-Jack said.
