Nollywood star Dayo Amusa has announced that she has forgiven TikTok creator Olaoluwa Segun, who falsely accused her of being HIV positive earlier this year

In July, Amusa had threatened legal action against Segun, known online as unofficial_olas001, after he listed her among five Nigerian actors he claimed were HIV positive.

The actress quickly debunked the claim, clarifying that he had reposted a 2019 message where she shared her HIV-negative status to encourage her followers to get tested.

At the time, Amusa expressed outrage over the false claim, vowing to make Segun a scapegoat to discourage others from spreading lies.

But in a video posted on her Instagram page on Monday, she revealed she had a change of heart after learning that Segun had just lost his mother, was only 27 years old, and after personally meeting with his relatives.

“I did promise to make him a scapegoat, which I did, but along the line, I realised he just lost his mum. I got to realise he is just a 27-year-old boy. I also got to meet his relatives, including his uncle,” Amusa explained in the video.

She also posted a clip of Segun publicly apologising, saying, “I want to apologise to her fans, I’m very sorry about that. Now we’re friends.”

Amusa thanked her fans for their support and ended her caption with, “Case closed. To err is human, to forgive is divine. Making mistakes is a natural and inherent part of being human, they say. Let’s be guided.”

Segun, in a separate TikTok video, revealed that he spent two days in detention at Yaba Panti police station over the controversy, calling it the worst experience of his life aside from losing his mother.

“I want to thank Aunty Dayo Amusa for forgiving me. If not that she changed her mind and forgave me, I would have been there for a long time. I don’t pray to ever sleep in a cell again,” he said.
