Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has refuted allegations that he stepped down out of guilt over certificate forgery, maintaining that his resignation was driven by principle and respect for due process
Nnaji resigned on October 7, 2025, days after a Premium Times investigation questioned the authenticity of his academic credentials.

The report alleged that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), had disowned the Bachelor of Science degree he submitted, stating that although he gained admission in 1981, he did not graduate.
The publication sparked widespread criticism and calls for his suspension, prompting the minister to address the issue. In a statement personally signed by him, Nnaji described the accusations as “malicious blackmail” intended to tarnish his image and disrupt the ministry’s progress under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He explained that his decision to step down was not an admission of guilt but a demonstration of accountability and honor.
“After deep reflection and consultation with family and well-meaning Nigerians, I have tendered my resignation to allow due process to take its course,” he stated. “My decision is personal and not an acceptance of guilt, but a matter of principle.”
