Governor Adeleke to announce new party before Dec 13th

Following the resignation of Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has revealed that the governor will formally announce his new political party before December 13

According to Alimi, Adeleke submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025. The commissioner made the disclosure while speaking on a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday. He attributed the resignation to prolonged internal crises within the PDP.

“The governor of Osun State and Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the PDP. This has been in the works for quite some time,” Alimi said. He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor, citing a Yoruba adage that the people are the governor’s protectors.

Alimi explained that the ongoing national-level crisis within the PDP, coupled with the approaching governorship election and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination deadline, made Adeleke’s resignation necessary.

“The governor is happy with the reaction so far. Had it not been for the divisions at the national level, which are crucial to the nomination process, he wouldn’t have defected. This is about facing reality as our election approaches in August and the INEC nomination window closes by December 15,” Alimi said.

Addressing speculation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, Alimi dismissed the claim, saying the notion was false. He added that the APC expected Adeleke to be easily manipulated but underestimated his political strategy.

Regarding the governor’s new party, Alimi said discussions are ongoing and that clarity will come on or before December 13, ahead of the December 15 deadline for party nominations and primaries.

He reiterated that Adeleke’s resignation was entirely a response to the PDP’s internal divisions. “Had the PDP not been fractured at the national level, there would have been no reason for Governor Ademola Adeleke to resign,” Alimi concluded.
