Adedapo Adegbola, a 40-year-old Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom, has confessed to k!lling his British former girlfriend after stabbing her to de.ath and fleeing the scene, leaving her body in a pool of blood

Adegbola entered a guilty plea at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday over the murder of Steph Irons, revealing that they met as colleagues before their working relationship developed into a romantic one.

The relationship later collapsed, and on October 21, 2025, Adegbola went to Irons’ home on Westdale Lane West in Mapperley, where he stabbed her. What triggered the attack remains unknown, as Adegbola has consistently refused to speak with investigators.

Rather than seek medical help, Adegbola focused solely on escaping. He did not call emergency services or attempt to treat Irons’ injuries and was later linked to the crime through blood-stained trainers he abandoned while fleeing.

“Following the attack on Miss Irons, Adegbola made no attempt to call for an ambulance, and was concerned only with getting away from the scene and attempting to dispose of vital evidence.”

Neighbours could not determine the exact time of the assault, but Irons’ body was found in the living room of her apartment around 10 p.m. Paramedics pronounced her dead shortly after arriving.

Adegbola later reported himself at Oxclose Police Station but refused to cooperate during questioning.

“Although he initially turned himself in, he went on to provide no comments to police interviews. The evidence compiled against him, though, has left the defendant with no choice but to plead guilty today.”

Detectives relied on blood evidence, CCTV footage, witness statements, and digital records to build their case, leading to Adegbola’s murder charge and guilty plea.

He is expected to be sentenced on February 5.

Irons held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in clinical psychology and was preparing to apply for a doctorate programme.

“I hope that this outcome assists Steph’s family in coming to terms with such a dreadful loss.”
