A suit seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Action Peoples Party (APP) has been adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja to February 24, 2026
The case, originally scheduled for hearing yesterday, could not proceed due to the absence of the presiding judge.

Court premises were busy, with all parties present and represented by their legal teams. The National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the ADC each engaged two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), while the Accord Party was represented by one SAN. The remaining parties also had senior counsel in attendance.
Legal arguments are expected to begin in earnest when the court resumes the substantive hearing next week.
Speaking to journalists, NFFL lead counsel Yakubu Ruba (SAN) said the suit seeks constitutional interpretation.
“The suit filed by the NFFL seeks the court’s interpretation of the Constitution and aims to further expound Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence,” he said.
The NFFL, a public interest group, filed the suit in December 2025, challenging the continued recognition of the parties over allegations that they failed to meet the constitutional threshold required for their existence.
The Forum said the legal action is intended to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence, promote adherence to the rule of law, and ensure a more credible and functional political system.
