Reverend Jesse Jackson, the legendary civil rights leader and Baptist minister who twice sought the U.S. presidency, has passed away, his family confirmed
In a statement released Tuesday morning, Jackson’s family described him as “a servant leader — not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world.”

They added, “We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering belief in justice, equality, and love uplifted millions, and we ask you to honor his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived by.”
Jackson d!ed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. His official cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
In November, Jackson had been hospitalized after living with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) for over a decade, according to his Rainbow PUSH Coalition. The condition affects patients’ ability to walk and swallow and carries serious complications. He was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Jackson rose to prominence as a civil rights activist, becoming a close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and marching alongside him in key demonstrations. Over several decades, he tirelessly advocated for African Americans and economically disadvantaged communities, leaving a lasting legacy of justice and equality.
