The Senate has called for the removal of Husaini Ishaq Magaji, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), over what lawmakers described as his repeated refusal to honour invitations to appear before the National Assembly
The decision followed a motion moved by Orji Uzor Kalu during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance, where members of the President’s economic team were present.

Tension reportedly surfaced at the start of the meeting when heads of agencies were introduced and the absence of the CAC boss was noted. Lawmakers expressed frustration that Magaji, who had been invited to provide explanations regarding the commission’s operations, failed to attend.
Moving the motion, Kalu accused the Registrar-General of persistently avoiding the committee’s summons.
“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa.”
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Sani Musa, also pointed to lingering concerns over discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue. He noted that the CAC leadership had repeatedly failed to show up to address the issues.
Supporting the call for action, Adams Oshiomhole suggested that the Senate should escalate its response by withholding approval of the commission’s 2026 budget.
The chamber subsequently adopted the motion urging the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General from office.
