Gunmen who abducted eight worshippers from the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have reportedly demanded N1 billion for their release
The church’s Pastor-in-Charge, Toba Omole, told journalists that the victims, including his wife, remain in captivity several days after the attack. The kidnappers struck during a Sunday service, firing shots into the air to create panic before forcibly taking the congregants.

Omole revealed that the abductors contacted the community on Tuesday, allowing a brief conversation with the victims during which the ransom demand was communicated. “This morning, we were able to hear from those who were abducted. I heard my wife’s voice and those of other members,” he said.
The pastor appealed to the Kwara State Government and the public for assistance, emphasizing that the requested sum is far beyond the community’s capacity. “This is far beyond what we can afford. We are appealing for help and intervention, including efforts toward negotiation to secure their release,” he added.
Omole also commended security personnel for their response, noting that soldiers visited the community after the incident and provided temporary protection. “We appreciate the security operatives who came around and stayed with us for some time to ensure calm in the community,” he said.
