Former Bayelsa State governor and senator, Seriake Dickson, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party no longer exists in its original form, attributing its collapse to internal crises and leadership failures
Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Dickson lamented what he described as the destruction of one of Nigeria’s most influential political parties. “The PDP that I came to be part of has since been killed, has since been buried,” he said.

The former governor reflected on the party’s historic achievements, noting that it once produced successive presidents including Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan, but has now lost its identity and no longer embodies the structure Nigerians once trusted with power.
Dickson blamed the ongoing crisis on the failure of party leaders to embrace compromise and prioritize collective interest over personal ambition. “People must agree to be reasonable and place the interest of the party and the country above personal ambition,” he said.
He further revealed that multiple efforts to stabilise the PDP, including proposals for a caretaker arrangement and reconciliation initiatives, were ignored. “I have chaired reconciliation committees under different leaderships, so I know the weaknesses and strengths of the party. It won’t be correct to say that I left PDP. The PDP, unfortunately, has left us,” he added.
Dickson warned that the party’s decline represents a setback for Nigeria’s democracy, given PDP’s historic role as both a ruling party and a major opposition force.
