The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has outlawed signing-out celebrations and similar end-of-year activities in all schools across the state, raising concerns over increasing cases of student misconduct
The decision was announced in a circular released on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, and shared with Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school administrators, and other stakeholders.

The ministry explained that what was once a celebratory tradition among graduating students has now degenerated into acts of “gross misconduct, indecent behaviour, and other disturbing activities,” which undermine the moral and academic standards of the state’s education system.
As part of measures to curb the trend, all schools have been directed to immediately halt such activities.
Authorities were also instructed to organise compulsory stakeholder meetings to ensure the directive is widely communicated and strictly enforced. Parents and guardians were urged to warn their children against engaging in the banned practices.
The ministry further stressed that anyone found violating the directive would face stiff sanctions.
“Any teacher found aiding or condoning such acts will face serious disciplinary measures, ranging from a query to a final written warning, suspension, or demotion.”
Students who flout the directive risk severe consequences, including having their results withheld or cancelled, and in some cases, being required to repeat their final year.
