A former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress
Shekarau made the announcement on Sunday at his residence along Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, which was visibly adorned with APC posters, signaling his return to the party.
He was not alone in the move, as Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo also exited the PDP alongside him.
Speaking to supporters, Shekarau said the decision came after extensive consultations and a thorough review of political options.
“We have weighed all the options and arrived at this collective resolution. Do you all agree?” he said, inviting dissenting voices to speak if they disagreed.
His defection came just hours after formally resigning from the PDP.
In a letter dated April 19, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he confirmed his immediate exit from the party.
“Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today,” he wrote.
He also expressed gratitude to the party’s ward leadership.
“I thank you for being a good leader, and pray that Allah will continue to guide you in your stewardship.”
