Apple has confirmed a major shake-up in its top leadership, with Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook preparing to leave his role after 15 years at the helm.

He will be replaced by John Ternus, Apple’s current head of hardware engineering, following a unanimous decision by the company’s board. The transition is scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2026.

Cook, who has led Apple since 2011, will remain in office through the end of the summer before moving into the position of Executive Chairman.

As part of the broader leadership changes, current chairman Arthur Levinson is expected to step into the role of Lead Independent Director, while Ternus will also join Apple’s board.

Ternus, 50, joined Apple in 2001 within its product design division and has steadily climbed the ranks to become Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
