9KIn a recent address that quickly drew attention, Nigerian cleric Apostle Johnson Suleman spoke candidly about public misconceptions regarding pastors and taxation, as well as the broader economic challenges he says he is facing.
According to him, many people assume religious leaders are exempt from taxes, a belief he strongly corrected during his remarks.
“People don’t know pastors pay tax… They think we don’t pay. Personal income tax. I’m not talking of church tax, I said why? What increased in me? There is no light… The tax is paining me,” he said.
In his comments, Suleman emphasized that pastors, like other professionals, are subject to personal income tax obligations.
He clarified that his concern was not about church-related taxes, but personal financial responsibilities in a difficult economic environment.
He also pointed to worsening living conditions, particularly the issue of electricity supply, which he suggested adds to financial strain.
