Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu is moving to ease the financial burden on domestic airlines by offering relief on debts owed to aviation agencies
Keyamo disclosed this in Abuja during a meeting involving the Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, airline operators, and key stakeholders in the aviation sector.

The meeting followed earlier threats by the Airline Operators of Nigeria, who had considered suspending flight services and increasing ticket prices due to rising operational costs, particularly the high price of Jet A1 fuel.
According to Keyamo, the level of debt relief to be granted will be determined by President Bola Tinubu, who has already directed airlines to formally submit requests for consideration.
He also revealed that the President has approved the creation of a committee to examine multiple taxes, levies, and charges affecting domestic air travel.
The committee, he said, is expected to recommend measures that will reduce financial pressure on airline operators and help lower costs for passengers.
Keyamo added that the government stepped in promptly to prevent a possible disruption in air travel following the operators’ warning, stressing that the intervention was necessary to stabilize the sector.
