A woman has taken to social media in distress after her fiancé reportedly ended their six-year relationship over a disputed bride price list.
According to her account, the situation unfolded shortly after she obtained the traditional marriage requirements from her family, as instructed by her partner. The man, who was said to be out of town in Abuja at the time, requested that she send him the list.
“I got it yesterday and snapped it to him because he travelled to Abuja, he’s not around,” she explained.
However, instead of progressing with wedding plans, the response she received shocked her. “He sent me a voice note saying it’s over,” she said, adding that he has since refused to answer her calls or communicate further.
Clearly overwhelmed, she emphasized that the demands were not her personal decision. “My family wrote it, it’s not my fault,” she said.
The bride price list reportedly included items such as livestock, food supplies, building materials, cash payments, and luxury gifts for her parents. Among the requirements were “five fat cows, 50 broiler chickens, 30 v&rg!n goats, 5,100 bags of cement, 500 tubers of yam, ₦10 million for the family, ₦5 million for the community, an iPhone 17 Air for the bride’s mother, an iPhone 17 Pro Max for the father, 10 bags of foreign rice, 50 litres of fuel, solar panels, and more.”
Despite the scale of the list, the woman insisted it was reasonable given her fiancé’s financial capacity. “It’s not too much. I know he can afford it. Honestly, it’s not too much for him to handle,” she maintained.
The incident has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many debating cultural expectations, financial pressure, and the role of families in traditional marriage arrangements.
