Aisha Achimugu, founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, has dismissed claims that her wealth is linked to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, insisting she built her fortune independently through years of entrepreneurship
She made the clarification during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, amid ongoing public scrutiny of her finances and a legal dispute involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Achimugu stated that her business journey began in 2001, stressing that she comes from a respectable family background and was already active in the oil and gas sector long before her rise to prominence.

“I started my business in 2001. My background is a decent family. My late husband was the MD of PPMCC. I met him in the course of the work. I actually met him doing business in NNPC,” she said.
When asked directly if her wealth came from Sanwo-Olu or other influential associates, she denied it outright, saying: “Not at all.”
Achimugu first gained widespread public attention in January 2024 after hosting an elaborate seven-day 50th birthday celebration in Grenada. The event attracted several high-profile guests from Nigeria’s political and entertainment circles, including Governor Sanwo-Olu, which fuelled speculation about the source of her wealth.
In April 2025, the EFCC declared her wanted over allegations of money laundering. She was later arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on April 29, 2025.
