Speaking up is now a crime in Nigeria - Hilda Dokubo

Veteran actress and politician Hilda Dokubo has made it clear that she has not pledged to join any political coalition, following her recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt.

The meeting, which took place on October 28, 2026, raised questions about her political direction, especially given her previous association with the Labour Party and support for Peter Obi.

There has been speculation that her visit to Wike could mean she is considering joining his political camp ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, her statement indicates that she does not want her meeting with the minister to be taken as a declaration of political allegiance.

In a post she shared on her page, she said:

“I do not belong to any coalition, I have not pledged to belong to any coalition. I’m too big and individual and a representative of our people to be pushed out of the window. I’ll walk through that door, majestically as I am and I’ll announce my arrival myself.”

Dokubo has been involved in politics for some time. In 2022, she expressed interest in contesting for the Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

In April 2026, she was also elected as the Labour Party’s National Women Leader.
