Isaac Fayose defends Peter Obi over party-hopping debate

Isaac Fayose has weighed in on the ongoing political discussion surrounding former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his past movements across political parties, comparing it to the political journey of Nigeria’s current president.

In a recent comment, Fayose reacted to criticisms about Obi’s party affiliations, saying critics often ignore the history of other major politicians who have also switched platforms over the years.

He pointed out that the current president moved through several political platforms before settling in the ruling party, referencing past affiliations with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose added that political loyalty is often overstated in Nigerian politics, insisting that support should be based on trust in a candidate rather than party movement. He also made a humorous remark about his continued support for Obi regardless of any future political decisions.

He said:
“Some people are saying Peter Obi is moving from one party to another. Let me remind them that the current president moved from SDP to AD, then ACN, and now APC. If Peter Obi decides to move to NAFDAC or LASTMA, I will still follow him because we believe in him. I thought APC has almost all the governors, so why are they still afraid?”.

The mention of agencies like NAFDAC and LASTMA was made rhetorically to emphasize his point about unwavering political support.

The comments have since sparked fresh debate online about party loyalty, political consistency, and the dynamics of support in Nigerian politics.
