Phyna defends Nigerian graduates after Moniepoint CEO hiring comments

Public reaction continues to trail comments made by the Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint, Tosin Eniolorunda, regarding challenges in hiring Nigerian talent, as more voices weigh in on the controversy.

Reality TV star Phyna has joined the conversation, expressing strong disagreement with the CEO’s remarks. She described the statement as insulting and questioned the generalization about Nigerian graduates.
In her response, she said:

“Moniepoint CEO saying he has 500 vacant post in his company but he cannot employ Nigerians because Nigerians are not smart is very d!srespectful, If Nigeria gets better, alot of people would leave f00ling and dust their certificates, I have my certificate here, i studied engineering, if Nigeria gets better, I’ll dust it and move into the cooperate world,”.

Her comments reflect frustration shared by many Nigerians online, especially graduates who feel that systemic issues rather than lack of intelligence are responsible for unemployment and underemployment in the country.

The debate was originally triggered after the Moniepoint CEO stated that his company had struggled to fill over 500 vacancies since 2024, claiming that many applicants did not meet global standards. He also linked the issue to what he described as negative societal influences.

Since then, the discussion has grown beyond recruitment challenges and has shifted toward broader concerns about education quality, youth development, and economic opportunity in Nigeria.

Supporters of Phyna’s view argue that many Nigerian professionals are capable but lack access to the right platforms, training, or work environments to demonstrate their skills. Others believe the exchange highlights a deeper disconnect between industry expectations and the realities of the local labour market.

The conversation continues to generate strong opinions across the Internet, with many calling for a more balanced approach to assessing Nigerian talent rather than sweeping generalisations.
