NDLEA uncovers caves used for illicit drug hideouts

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has uncovered and begun dismantling a network of caves and underground hideouts used for illicit drug activities in the Rimin Kebe area of Kano State

The operation, carried out under the code name “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” was executed on Monday, May 4, 2026, following intelligence gathering and sustained surveillance.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, operatives discovered multiple caves constructed and adapted by suspected drug dealers for the consumption, storage, and distribution of illicit substances.

The statement noted that several of the hideouts were furnished with household items such as mats, pillows, food flasks, plates, and cutlery, suggesting continuous occupation.

Other caves and tunnels, some still under construction, are believed to serve as interconnected routes between different hideouts.

Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, said operatives have already dislodged a number of the caves and tunnels, with plans underway to demolish and secure the remaining structures.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eliminating drug-related activities in the state, warning those involved in the illicit trade to desist or face enforcement action.
