A 26-year-old British woman, Isabel Rose, has been sentenced to six years in prison in Hong Kong after being found guilty of blackmailing a banker with a false ra.pe allegation

Rose, who is from Hackney in east London, was convicted after a six-day trial in which prosecutors said she demanded £100,000 from the man she accused of ra.ping her.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, District Judge Adriana Tse said Rose showed “no remorse” for her actions and described her conduct as “wicked.” The judge also praised the banker as an “honest, credible and reliable witness,” saying the evidence clearly showed Rose had demanded money from him.

The case began after Rose travelled to Hong Kong in early 2024 to meet the British banker, whom she had previously met while travelling in Thailand. She later reported him to police for ra.pe, leading to his arrest, but he was eventually released without charge.

Prosecutors argued that Rose fabricated the allegation to pressure the man into paying her as much as £100,000. The court agreed, finding her guilty on both charges beyond reasonable doubt.

Evidence presented during the trial included WhatsApp messages exchanged between the pair. The banker apologised in one message, saying he had been drinking and had misread her signals. He later transferred £5,000 to Rose, followed by another £5,000 after she claimed the money was for travel, accommodation and medical expenses.

The court heard that Rose later demanded £100,000 and threatened to report him to the police if he refused to pay. Judge Tse ruled that she had exploited the man’s feelings for her, manipulated him for financial gain, and knowingly made a false accusation that resulted in his arrest.

Following her conviction, Rose was sentenced to six years behind bars.
