Governor Ademola Adeleke and several government officials were on Wednesday involved in an accident after a stage collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State.
The incident happened at a gathering organised for the inauguration of canvassers for the governor’s re-election campaign, which had party leaders, supporters and top officials in attendance.

Governor Adeleke arrived at the venue with his entourage and was received by the campaign council spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, before joining other dignitaries on the stage.
However, the platform became overcrowded with aides, appointees and security personnel. The situation worsened when the governor stood to acknowledge supporters, causing simultaneous movement on the already burdened structure.
The combined movement reportedly destabilised the stage, which eventually gave way and collapsed.
Adeleke, his sister Modupe Adeleke-Sanni, Chief of Staff Kazeem Akinleye, and several other officials fell during the incident.
Security operatives quickly intervened and escorted the governor away from the scene.
The programme was subsequently cut short following the incident.
