Femi Adesina: Bad governance is holding Nigeria back despite its potential
Nigeria has what It takes to prosper, but bad governance holds it back - Femi Adesina

Former presidential aide, Femi Adesina  has said despite Nigeria’s enormous wealth of resources and millions of energetic young people, Nigeria is still struggling because of years of poor leadership and corruption

Speaking at a programme organised by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Oyo State, Adesina said the country’s biggest problem is not a shortage of opportunities but the failure to make the most of what it already has.

He said Nigeria has all the natural and human assets needed to compete with some of the world’s most successful countries, yet those strengths have failed to produce the level of prosperity many citizens have long hoped for.

“Nigeria is endowed with both human and natural resources but unfortunately it has not translated to wealth.”

Adesina pointed to corruption, ineffective leadership, poor infrastructure and rising unemployment as some of the major reasons development has remained slow over the years. He said the impact is felt most by young Nigerians, many of whom are finding it increasingly difficult to secure decent jobs or build better futures for themselves.

Looking back over Nigeria’s history, Adesina said successive governments have often painted a hopeful picture of the country’s future. From Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa to President Bola Tinubu, he noted that different leaders have spoken about Nigeria’s vast potential, but those promises have largely failed to become reality.

He urged those in positions of authority to focus less on lofty declarations and more on practical decisions that will improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
