South African music star Tyla has quietly removed Lagos from the schedule of her APOP World Tour, days after her planned performance in Nigeria caused uproar
A fresh look at the singer’s official tour itinerary on Friday shows that the December 22 concert in Lagos has been omitted.
While the tour will still continue across Europe, North America and South Africa, Nigeria no longer appears among the listed destinations.
Tyla had previously announced Lagos as the only Nigerian stop on the tour before concluding the series with performances in Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
Her announcement divided opinion among Nigerians. While many welcomed the opportunity to see the Grammy-winning singer perform, others called for the concert to be boycotted, citing repeated reports of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians living in South Africa.
On the other hand, several people argued that Tyla should not be blamed for actions linked to political leaders or individuals, insisting that artistes should not become targets over diplomatic or social tensions between countries.
