The wife and three children of a former Commissioner of Education, in Niger state, Abubakar Daja, have d!ed
They d!ed in a road crash on Sunday involving a Sienna and a Mazda.
Daja, who hailed from the Mashegu Local Government Area, d!ed in 2025 and was the Education Commissioner during the country’s return to democracy in 1999. He did two terms, which ended in 2007.
It was learnt that the late Hajia Daja, with her four children, was travelling in the Mazda from Minna to Mokwa-Bida Road when the accident occurred.
The woman and three of her children d!ed on the spot, while the only surviving passenger in the car was her teenage daughter. She was said to have suffered severe injuries, including a broken rib and shoulder.
An eyewitness from Mokwa Local Government Area, Salihu Abubakar, told a Punch correspondent that he was not confident that the late Hajia Daja’s daughter, who was unconscious and had suffered severe injuries, would survive the injuries.
Two people also d!ed in the Sienna, making a total of nine de.aths in the road crash.
Saadu, who confirmed the accident, disclosed that the accident involved 18 passengers.
“As at the time of rescue, 18 people were involved: seven injured, seven k!lled and four not injured.
“The crash occurred around 11:30am.
“Along Kutigi-Bida Road at Shebe Village,” she said in a WhatsApp message.
