Nollywood actress and producer Ruth Kadiri has explained why she chose to keep her marriage away from the public eye, especially when she was still adjusting to married life.
The actress said she was initially afraid of marriage and unsure about what the future would look like after making such a major decision. That uncertainty made her uncomfortable with having a big, public wedding.
Speaking on the Dear Ife podcast, she said:
“I had a phobia of marriage. I was battling with the fear of the unknown and asking myself, ‘Am I going to make this decision and everything will now scatter?’ So, I wasn’t really ready to have a public marriage, and my husband was okay with it.
“Also, I didn’t want a lot of drama regarding my relationship. That’s why my husband and I invited only 50 people to our wedding. Twenty-five people were invited by him, while 25 others were invited by me. If I were abroad, I guess we would have just probably walked to the registry and gotten married.”
She believes keeping the wedding small was simply a way of having the moment on her own terms without putting unnecessary attention on her relationship.
She has largely maintained that private approach over the years, choosing to keep much of her family life away from the public while focusing on her career and personal life.
