Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has shared a story about an uncle who, according to him, married three wives because he believed having multiple wives would help prevent them from conspiring against him.
Speaking during a conversation with BAEU, Edochie said his uncle explained that having three wives meant that whenever two of them planned anything against him, the third would likely tell him about it.
He said:
“I once had an uncle. He’s de.ad now. He married the first wife. Then he married a second one. Then, finally, he married a third one.
“I asked him why. He said there was no way they would all conspire against him at the same time. That when two conspire against him, the other one would come and tell him what they are saying.
“He then said he’s now comfortable, that he’s balanced now. He’s fully wifed. Not long after, he passed. I won’t advise any man to take more than one wife.”
Edochie ended the story with his own advice, making it clear that he would not encourage men to marry more than one wife.
