The family of a Nigerian Air Force sergeant who d!ed in the Ondo plane crash is demanding answers, alleging that the aircraft had developed a technical problem before the fatal incident.
The man said his sister had informed him about the problem before the crash. According to his account, the aircraft left Abuja for Lagos but stopped in Benin after a mechanical fault reportedly developed.
He is now questioning why the aircraft was allowed to proceed and why the circumstances of the journey appear to differ from the account given by the Air Force.
In the post, he said:
“Who flies a faulty aircraft? The Nigerian Air Force. They flew a faulty aircraft that crashed, and now they lied about it. They tried to make the situation less severe, and now there’s damage control everywhere”.
He maintained that the flight did not simply begin in Benin, as he understood the Air Force’s account to suggest, but had departed Abuja before making the stop because of the reported fault.
The loss has also brought other concerns to the surface for the family. The brother said his sister had spent more than 11 years in the Air Force but still contacted him to ask for ₦17,000 shortly before her death.
“How does a sergeant in the Nigerian Air Force not have ₦17,000 in their account?” he asked.
He alleged that salary delays and financial hardship were problems among serving personnel, raising questions about the support available to people who had spent years in service.
He is also unhappy with how the family has been treated since the crash. Despite being listed as his sister’s next of kin, he said he had received no official communication from the Air Force five days after the incident.
“My sister is the best thing that ever happened to me. How am I supposed to console my mother?” he said.
Beyond seeking answers about the aircraft, he wants to know who gave the go-ahead for the flight to continue despite the reported mechanical issue. He is calling for a full investigation into the decisions made before the crash.
