Prince Harry has insisted he wants to ‘reconcile’ with his family but declared “some people don’t want it to work out”
The 42-year-old opened up about his fractious relationship with his father the King and brother Prince William in a brand new interview released today admitting that he is ‘grieving’ their broken bond and that there is “enough drama in the world to continue with issues with family”.
His words come on the same day that the King and Prince of Wales host the Sultan of Oman in a set piece royal event at Windsor Castle and in the interview, he also sheds light on his and Meghan’s bombshell return to the UK, defiantly hits back at criticism for his memoir Spare, takes yet another swipe at US president Donald Trump and reveals the King, who is still undergoing cancer treatment is “getting better”.
In the chat with GQ magazine for its One More Question series and filmed in New York City last month, Harry is asked if he is grieving due to his family feud and said: “Yes, of course. I think from a family perspective – again, another massively relatable issue for so many people—sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent.
‘That continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to, so I know how relatable it is. People maybe look at us and go, ‘How are you gonna work it out? Maybe that will help me work my stuff out’.”
Harry, who has had a shaky relationship with his father and is understood to have not spoken to his older brother in over four years, added: “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out.
“With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile – that’s the key point… scars stick around forever.
“But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That’s something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there’s certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that’s harder to let go of. But, for me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue with issues with family.”
A spokesman for Harry later said the comment of some people “not wanting it to work out” was not a swipe at William or any other member of the family and was made in “general context”.
