Yoruba nation activist Sunday Igboho has warned that any governor who attempts to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland from the throne would face strong resistance.
While addressing a group of people, Igboho made it clear that he would not accept any move to remove the traditional ruler, warning that such a decision could lead to widespread disruption across Oyo State.
He said the consequences would be immediate, adding that a state of emergency could be declared in the state on the same day the governor made such an attempt.
He said:
“Any governor who attempts to remove Olubadan, we will disrupt everywhere, and they will declare a state of emergency in Oyo State that same day”.
Igboho’s statement made clear his opposition to any attempt by a governor to interfere with the monarch’s position, warning that such a move could trigger serious tension in Oyo State.
The warning comes following an earlier controversy in Oyo State over allegations that Governor Seyi Makinde was planning to remove Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the Olubadan of Ibadanland. The governor’s administration dismissed the allegation, while Ladoja also rejected claims of a plot against him. The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes later said the issues between the governor and the monarch had been resolved through dialogue.
