Gunmen have k!lled prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka and his associate, Adamu Abubakar, in an attack outside the preacher’s residence in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State
The incident occurred on Monday, October 26, 2026, when two armed men riding on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on the cleric and his associate before fleeing the scene.
Witnesses said the attackers struck while the Islamic scholar was outside his residence, although accounts differed on the exact time of the shooting.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the k!llings, saying both victims sustained fatal gunshot injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where a doctor pronounced them dead.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said, “The Katsina State Police Command regrets to confirm the tragic death of a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, following an attack by suspected armed gunmen.”
He added that the Divisional Police Officer in Dutsin-Ma led a team of operatives to the scene after receiving the report.
“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, has ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the area. An investigation has commenced, and efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement said.
The police commissioner also extended condolences to the families, friends and followers of the deceased, assuring residents that the command would pursue the perpetrators.
