Rapper Slimcase believes the Afrobeats scene is gradually losing the excitement and influence it once had.
He points to the changing relationship between fans and their favourite artistes, saying the level of admiration and star power surrounding musicians is no longer what it used to be.
According to him, the culture has changed so much that being popular or wealthy no longer carries the same weight. He also believes social media has played a part in creating a situation where fans have become too familiar with their favourite celebrities, leaving little room for admiration.
In a post he shared on his page, he wrote:
“Signs afrobeat is falling off
“Nobody gives a fork about faves anymore
“Star power getting weaker by the day
“See finish pandemic amoung our faves
“Everybody is a star everybody is rich
“Scarcity don turn depression u been out there don cause see finish
“Soci@l medi@ algorithm ruined it all
“Doom is around the corner
“Doom is coming for us all”.
