IG Warns Against Employing Foreign Domestic Helps, Gives Security Tips On Easter

    The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase on
    Wednesday at a Mega Town Hall Meeting with stakeholders at the Redemption Camp,
    Ogun State warned Nigerians against employing foreigners as domestic helps,
    stating that he has nothing against the foreigners but they are hard to trace
    when they get away with their employers’ property or children.
    He spoke at the programme tagged, ‘Security Awareness and
    Personal Workplace Safety’, which was organised by the Ogun State branch of the
    Police Community Relations Committee. Arase said;
    “We do not have anything against people from Ghana or
    Cotonou but if you want to employ domestic workers, ensure that they are
    Nigerians so that when they escape (with your property), you know where to find
    him or her. You can even meet with your Divisional Police Officer to know
    whether he or she had committed a crime elsewhere before you employ one.”
    Speaking about the forth coming Easter celebration, he said;
    “People will travel for the Easter. It is not a must you get to your
    destination on the same day. When night falls, you can park your car and sleep
    in a hotel. Easter is like Christmas and I know Nigerians like gifts. Do not
    open your door to anybody that brings a hamper. It could contain an explosive
    device. Do not give criminal opportunities. Do not leave a ladder close to your
    residence. Children will also visit recreational places. Parents should watch
    over them so that they will not be tricked with ice creams.”
