INEC Declares LP’s Alex Otti Abia Gov-Elect

The Abia State government has decided to give civil servants an extra N15,000 in wages for the next three months, starting from July.

This decision comes just two days after the state signed a seven-point agreement with labor unions over the weekend to avoid a strike.

During a press briefing in Umuahia, Commissioner for Information and Culture Okey Kanu shared this announcement. He mentioned that Governor Alex Otti chaired the State Executive Council meeting where this decision was made.

Kanu highlighted Governor Otti’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, noting that the total wage bonus will amount to N45,000 over the three months.

“The wage award is part of the state government’s efforts to help workers cope with the current economic challenges in the country,” Kanu explained.

He also revealed that the government plans to soon pay annual leave allowances to civil servants who are on leave.

“We found outstanding leave allowances from previous administrations, but Otti had committed to resolving this issue even before meeting with labor unions,” he added.

Kanu assured that civil servants will receive their leave allowances promptly when they take their annual leave.
