Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that Senators received a $15,000 bribe to support a state of emergency in Rivers State

The allegations suggested that lawmakers were paid $5,000 on Tuesday and an additional $10,000 on Wednesday at Akpabio’s Maitama residence during their Ramadan fast-breaking gathering.
However, Akpabio, through his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, refuted the reports, insisting there was no truth to the bribery claims.
“I am aware that since Senator Godswill Akpabio became Senate President, he has been hosting fast-breaking events. He did it last year, he did it this year, so why turn it into a rumour?” Eyiboh said.
“On the issue of dollars, what money is he giving and for what? I can confirm the fast-breaking event, but I can also tell you that the claims about $5,000 or $10,000 are false. People are just fabricating this story to fuel their malice and hate campaign,” he added.
