Dr. Chukwu de Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has finally spoken out about the altercation with a female student that has been widely reported

In a statement, Dr. Okoye shared his side of the story, providing context to the events that transpired.
According to Dr. Okoye, the incident occurred as he was leaving a classroom and heading to his office. He encountered the student, who was making a TikTok video in the corridor.
Dr. Okoye politely asked to pass, tapping the student and saying “excuse me.” However, the student allegedly made a derogatory comment, prompting Dr. Okoye to return and ascertain whether she was his student.
Dr. Okoye stated that he asked the student to delete the TikTok video, as he didn’t want his face recorded. When she refused, he confiscated her phone. The situation escalated, and Dr. Okoye claimed that the student became aggressive, leading to the alleged assault.
Dr. Okoye concluded his statement by leaving the matter to the university’s committee to investigate and resolve. He thanked everyone for their attention and wished them God’s blessings.
